Historically Correct Paintwork
Paintwork is something that is often hard to get right on a vintage, or even a post-war car; modern paint shops cater for modern cars, with synthetic paint and materials, they often have little sympathy with cars of a more elderly disposition.
We use a variety of skills to enable correct application of Nitro-cellulose paints as used in period, to enable paint finishes that look and feel right and, importantly, wear and mellow with use, as they would have done when first used.
Nitro-Cellulose is a wonderful, if challenging medium to work with, but can be manipulated to provide a variety of finishes from highly polished to gently mellow— quite impossible to replicate with modern paints.
Thin coats also allow the bodywork to show its age, and we are often asked to use our eyes to determine what panel imperfections ought to be retained; particularly in the case of old racing cars, we have found paint would often have been thinly and quickly applied, with little preparation to the bare panel-work.
We can also coach-paint cars and chassis, importantly using only the best suppliers to ensure oil-based paint is of the highest quality, often found lacking in some modern coach-paints.
